Bio: Margaret Dygas

'Never a dull moment!'

Life as Margaret has experienced has had more than it's fair share of unusual twists and turns. With a childhood that began in Poland, at aged 11 she escaped to Germany with her family before eventually moving to the States, initially to San Jose, California. In the late eighties the music she was surrounded by and adhered to was old school hip hop; there were house parties every weekend and lots of chillin' in the backyard. Her discovery of house music started in New York in the early nineties when she moved to study fashion at the renowned Fashion Institute of Technology. Before long her college friends had introduced her to the whirlwind underground club scene, dressed up club kids, intimate basement techno nights, jungle gatherings and scores of insane house parties.

Summer of 99

Captivated by the British dance scene, she moved to London. Her first job there was on the door of Home, her day job was as a make up artist and she began to play out at parties and warming up in clubs. Then four years ago she decided make this her full-time career. Her wide musical background has made her keen to experiment with new sounds and styles through out the years. Now more on the electronic side of things, where the choice is endless, Margaret has found herself where she is most comfortable, from dub to techno and anything in between.

Paths from London to Berlin

Margaret has been a regular feature on London's electronic scene playing at clubs such as Fabric, The End/AKA and The Key. She was a resident at label night Underline and has been supporting growing underground parties such as Multi Vitamins, Run, Minimallondon.com events, Stink at the T Bar as well as Technique in Leeds. Her music has been well received in Berlin where she was fast becoming a friendly face at clubs like Panorama Bar, Arena, Club Der Visionäre and Watergate. She was also part of Crosstown Rebels mini tour last year and was invited to play at Monza at Space in Ibiza in 2006, and now for the summer of 2007 in Privilege she returns there. Over the years her DJ travels have taken her all over the world and opened even more doors of opportunity, playing for some of the biggest events in Europe. In winter of 2006, Margaret moved to Berlin where she started her monthly residency at Panorama Bar - playing for some of the Cadenza label nights - as well as regular vists to one of her favorite places in the summer time, the infamous Club Der Visionare. Other towns in Germany also hold a special place in her heart and Margaret has residencies at Heimatmelodie / Hotel Shanghai in Essen and Heimatmelodie/ Versteck in Dortmund.

Productions

In 2006 Margaret made her first moves into production, leading her to her first release on Contexterrior in July 2007. Two digital-only releases on Harry Klein Networks "Painted only" (in 2007) and "Roses are red" (in 2008) gained some incredible feedback. In 2008 Margaret got seduced by the secrets and sound scaping possibilities of analog sound production - so she teamed up with Tobias Freund from Sieg über die Sonne and NSI and released "See you around" on Tobias label Non Standard Production. The electronic-tech vibe of her present sets incorporate the deep, dubby and minimal sounds she loves but retains the driving funk of her musical past.

Sarah Goldfarb - Biography

The female pseudonym of Sarah Goldfarb hides a male artist that lives in Marseille, France and who is definitively part of these new electronic emergent signatures.

Since 1994 Sarah Goldfarb has organized a lot of parties with local techno collectives on a register inspired from north american pioneers such as Richie Hawtin, Jeffs Mills, Carl Craig and their direct heirs like Baby Ford, Ricardo Villalobos, Robag Wruhme, Luciano or Someone Else. The refined structures and the contained tempo of this minimal scene was just fascinating this DJ and LIVE artist, even before representative and now famous labels such as Treibstoff, Kompakt or Traum/Trapez became widely known and played in all (good) european dance-floors. In 2001, Jean Vince, now recognized as one of the best local DJs, bought his first machines. If his DJ sets oscillates between minimal house and techno, his productions are a subtle mix between micro house and hypnotic techno.

For his production Jean Vince choose the pseudonym of Sarah Goldfarb, its the name of the amphetamhined grandmother in Darren Aranofskys Requiem 'For A Dream', a movie that was an aesthetic shock to this cinema lover. One should one that Sarah Goldfarb completed studies in this field before investing himself completely into electronic music.

This female pseudonym brought him good luck. In 2003, becoming more and more famous, his productions were pressed by Colognes well known label Trapez, but were just the beginning : Sarah Goldfarb started working on regular basis with many other pretty well known labels all over Europe, such as Handeld or Treibstoff. And its with the latter, and especially with its owner Marcel Janovsky that a strong and friendly complicity was born, so he choosed Treibstoff as his homebase label.

However, being a freedom lover, in 2005 Jean Vince also helped create a new net label in his city, Indigomagenta.com, releasing free tracks and taking inspiration from the creative common licencenses philosophy. The label Roman Photo was founded a few months later with some of his friends, becoming acquainted with followed by his meeting with the american great and emergent artist Someone Else who confirmed him the first smashing Roman Photo release, definitely a very good and promising start.

Im Rahmen unserer Show diesen Samstag verlosen wir ein Exemplar der neuen Perlon 12"

Review

Malgorzata Dygasiewicz, who was born in Poland, moved to Berlin in 2006. Before that, Margaret lived in London where she consolidated her dj skills in such famous clubs like "Fabric" or "The End". Only 2 years ago Ms. Dygas decided to produce her own tracks (thanks god!), that got released through "Contexterrior" and Tobi Freund's outstanding imprint "Non Standard Productions". Perlon likes to welcome Margaret on board with this 2 track / 12″, that could be described as quite deep……. Enjoy!

PERLON74 in the media

Cassy (Perlon): "great!!"
Fe=derico Molinari (Oslo): "nice record"
Jose Belo (bloop, Dance Club M: "you can always count on perlon to release amazing music. margaret's ep for perlon is definitely that, amazing music. the way margaret works the guitars on "frankly" turns the track completely around. it's my pick of the ep."
Nick Curly (Cecille): "great release..like it! "

Richard Carnes Resident Adviso:
"Cracking stuff from Dygas here, no doubt aided by the audio manipulation skills of Tobias Freund. Even though she produces all of her tracks on Ableton, Freund's massaging of the sounds to give them a confusingly analogue-styled sound. Lovely delayed tribal drum work and atmosphere building on "Invisible Circles" - sort of like a UK funky record fired into the cosmos. Things take a darker turn on "Frankly", a restrained by menacing minimal bomb that opens up into an odd guitat section and tribal beats that will turn the coldest hearted raver's frown upside down. Perlon proving that no-one quite does minimal house like them yet again."
