Streetlights is the debut album from David Ferguson’s solo project, A series of dark caves. Nine tracks of pure indie bliss, varying from the soothing and dreamlike, to the upbeat and ancey. Or, as is the case with “Painting by numbers”, a combination of the two in five and a half glorious minutes.

To elaborate on the above, Streetlights is an album that promises so much, and delivers on all counts. The album is full of headphone-tweaking sound effects, that are often overlooked. It is this attention to detail that takes this album from one level, and onto the next.

The albums closer, “Something awkward this way comes”, happens to be one of the most upbeat guitar hungry numbers, and yet it still manages to cram in a bit of Jools-like ivory tinkling, and when the final ivory has been tinkled, it leaves you wishing that it wasn’t going to be the case.

There is one thing for sure, Dublin has once again manage to confirm that there is something in the water over on those shores, as once again another Dubliner has produced a fine offering. One of these days it will the record moguls who realise this. Until then, if you want to support the artist more then you can do so by purchasing this very album directly.
