'Breakcore' would be the closest genre that might apply here. But this album is far more than just weird rhythm. In fact, while the beats are indeed extremly complex and omnipresent, they are still rather secondary. It's the compositions that this album is all about, and there is certainly something of classical music about lazer.eyes.love, both in complexity and in harmonies. Think of a battle between an electrified classical string quartet and a Drum & Bass DJ high on a bad trip. Some of the analog melody parts strongly remind of oldschool synth classics like 'Switched On Bach' or early YMO or of Frank Zappa's Yellow Shark (the composition, NOT the sound!) and there also is a touch of some classic arcade game soundtracks. The lazer.eyes.love tracks come complex and unpredictable, with no repetitions 100% guaranteed. And you can just forget about tapping your foot along with any beat. All this is put together much too artfully than the usual IDM breakcore production, so 'Artcore' could sound more appropriate as a genre. Advanced listeners only!
