Sean Hernandez grew up on Chicago’s North Side to a perfect storm of musical influences: While his father was a rock/punk musician, his mother loved disco and throughout the neighborhood, Puerto Rican music played around the clock. As he grew older, Sean was electrified by the legendary WBMX radio mixes, which were cultivating an entire generation of Chicago DJs, producers and dance music fans. It wasn’t long before he found his way to fabled nightclub Medusa’s and signed his name on the dotted line. Obsessed with the house sound, Sean studied how it was made, first buying turntables, then a TR-909 drum machine, then skipping meals in order to buy more gear. He quickly became a regular fixture on the DJ scene, blending deep house with disco and Detroit techno. In the mid-‘90s, he organized the hugely popular night Kream. Cajmere appeared frequently, often debuting the latest Relief Records releases, along with Gene Farris and Spencer Kinsey (aka – Gemini). In the late ‘90s, Sean formed the crew Krush Productions to revitalize the underground scene with a slew of well-received events.
He has since retired from event promotion in favor of producing tracks under the name Chicago Skyway. In 2009, he released two albums including Bells on Eargasmic Recordings and Heavens on M>O>S Recordings, Wolfgang Hair EP on Uzuri Recordings, and has gone on to produce some of the finest raw Chicago albums in the form of wreckage. Remix offers are coming think and fast. most note worthy will be a remix for steven Tang on Synchrophone . More ep’s for Eargasmic and Uzuri are scheduled for later in 2011! (quote by Uzuri)

Detroit is a city full of underrated DJs and producers, but The Godson might be the least appreciated of them all in the wider world. RA's Todd L. Burns catches up with the oft-forgotten third chair. If you look closely at the early records of 3 Chairs, the Detroit trio (at the time at least) of Theo Parrish, Moodymann and Rick Wilhite, you'll always see a little icon next to the tracks written by Parrish and Moodymann. For Wilhite, though? Nothing. It likely wasn't a purposeful move, but it seems a tidy way of summing up Rick Wilhite's career thus far. There. But still in the background. He was there, after all, playing "Cosmic Cars" at his school talent show. He was there, with a remix, when DJ Stingray released "Time to Party" under the name NASA. He's sold records to some of the world's most famous DJs through his now-shuttered shop, Vibes. He's thrown parties since the age of 12. He´s part of the Rotating Assembly. He recently dropped the highly rated album „Analog Aquarium“ on Still Music. And he's not afraid to let you know about it. Like many Detroit DJ/producers, he is intensely proud of the things that he has achieved. With Rush Hour recently reissuing some of his early work on KDJ and releasing a new compilation celebrating some of his former record store's biggest supporters, perhaps Wilhite will soon find the recognition he so richly deserves.
