Diese Branche hört einfach nicht auf mich zu erstaunen, es gibt Jobs von deren Existenz ich bis dahin noch gar nichts wußte Ghost Shopping for DJs.

The concept of personal record shoppers is hardly new. From the guy behind the record counter through to the selector for the big-time radio DJs, everyone gets a little helping-hand somewhere. But to what extent does it exist within our DJ community, and should these little-helpers get more recognition?

When you think of a personal record shopper, you tend to picture this vinyl-zealot flicking through the crates, digging out the rare gems for the superstar DJ to drop while touring the world’s biggest clubs. Yet, the more and more of those I spoke to, the less this seemed to be a conventional reality.

We spoke to various diggers, selectors and shoppers who had differing experiences helping DJs make their selections. DJB divided them up into three categories: the digital shopper, the radio plugger and the club DJ helping hand. All of these ghostshoppers had one thing in common; they provided the filter for the DJ and acted as the interface between the showman and the record store, playing a large part in influencing in what we – the general public – ended up hearing.

Aber… aber… wo bleibt denn da der Spaß an der Sache?
