Sébastien Léger [bio]
Disco Science
With a few murderous EP's, exploited greedily by international DJs and an
album, King Size, symbolizing a new step of creation, Sébastien Léger is
imposing himself, slowly but surely, in the present electronic scenery. Far
beyond the generally accepted ideas " french touch take-over " or " new
master of the filtered house ", his evident funk style impresses in a
tech-house, of which he's the great french outsider.
The child's play
The " heap thing " , Sébastien was born with : both his father and mother are
professional classical musicians. So does the boy study music when he's very
young : academy of music from 5 to 15, integrating technique and musical
theory on piano and drums.A training which turns into a laborious work when
one only desires dancing on Mickael Jackson's music, grabbing one's own
crotch. Putting an end to his studies in the academy of music, Sébastien
rapidly lays down his ears at the opposite of the musical area, on Chicago
house productions in a vynils shop. A whole world is opening up to him, Ian
Pooley, Laidback Luke and Sneak are the ones who clean the 14 young boy's
ears. The latter still remains an important reference : " Sneak is a master :
for years, he brought production techniques which made the Chicago sound
evolve ". Immediately, Sébastien continues with a pair of MK2, his musical
ear and his timing as a practiced percussionist, make easier this training
which isn't much taught on the benches in music schools. Carried away in the
techno phenomenon and mix-sessions, the young boy couldn't however let aside
the potentials of producer/musician he possesses In 1998, equiped with a 2000
MPC, he starts elaborating his own house production, or even hard house,
still completed with syncopations and funk sounds. In 1999, under the name
Deaf 'n 'Dumb Crew, he publishes his first EPs. He isn't 20 years old yet.
