schlimm schlimm, ich möcht mir die gelegenheit halt aber ned entgehen lassen und fahr aller voraussicht nach mitm zug von linz nach wien.. nur halt ganz alleeeene und das ist dann auch ned so spaßig behaupt ich mal ...

hm. verstehe nicht ganz die essenz deiner aussage. meinst du, "er ißt, und keiner geht hin" (ergibt aber irgendwie keinen sinn) oder "er ist, und keiner geht hin (weil keiner weiss, dass er ist) oder...
bitte um aufklärung in wiefern deine aussage semantisch zu verstehen sei (IMG:http://www.technoboard.at/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

spass bei seite, wennst schon nach wien kommst, dann solltest auch aufs overdrive schauen. da wird sicherlich mehr los sein. ich denke das lohnt sich auf jeden fall.

Also letzte Aussage ist ein einziger Blödsinn lieber Scud X!

Ein Overdrive mit einem I Wolf/Amon Tobin Konzert gleich zu setzen ist ja wohl äußerst daneben. Dieser Vergleich hinkt Länge mal Breite...............!

Zudem darf man davon ausgehen das am 10.10.03 Konzertdatum das Flex gesteckt voll sein wird (dieser Tag hat ein äußerst gutes und ebenso stark frequentiertes Programm)! Das Publikum wird ein gänzlich anderes sein als das des Overdrive.......

Frage mich wie es zu einer derart unqualifizierten Aussage oder zu diesem Vergleich kommt? Denn es handelt sich musikalisch um gänzlich verschiedene Welten!

Bekanntlich soll es ja Menschen geben die über einen weiteren Horizont verfügen und noch andere Interessen außer Techno haben. Unglaublich aber wahr.........!

The nineties were a great time for beat cooking, and the London-based Ninja Tune label had some strong stew, from DJ Food's tasty hors d'oeuvres, to slices from Coldcut and Funky Porcini, to The Herbaliser's homegrown selections. But that decade has passed and-- post-pot smoke and the deleterious effects of "trip-hop" on the reception of downtempo grooves-- it's hard to deny that a good chunk of it sounds really dated. Not so for the man called Amon, whose ability to evoke entire jazz symphonies from two turntables and a sampler caused much jaw-dropping and salivation. He quit school and composed Bricolage and Permutation, each blending jazzy samples and drum-n-bass into tours de force that still sound fresh today.

Of course, given the rapid pulse of the electronic scene, it's easy to forget that Tobin has steadily churned out an album every two years. In 2000, he dropped his first real departure, the aggressive Supermodified, which digitized his sound into fractals for the 21st century. Having paid his dues and grasped his contribution, he's left the exploration of improv's interstices to DJ Spooky and Thirsty Ear's Blue Series and has since ventured into the furthest realms of space. Out From Out Where beams back at us from one of those planets where mutant morlocks throw block parties and robo-dogs get it on with intelligent fire hydrants. It's a future that may not end in dystopia; there are a few user-friendly moments once you get past all the sharp edges.

The physics of drums and bass haven't been abandoned altogether, evidenced in the insane opener "Back From Space" as a barrage of tech fills skitter amongst chimes and the surprise accompaniment of heavy metal guitar. But Tobin seems less concerned with showing off tricky breaks and Krupa-on-crack rhythms here, and more taken with just rocking the house. Thus, "Chronic Tronic" oscillates cycles of beats with hissing snare pistons, mining post-electro territory similar to that explored by Skinny Puppy or Download. "Cosmo Retro Intro Outro" likewise pursues a dance vibe, though this time it recalls an old-school rave-up as synth vamps come at the climax to push aside the junglist influence. This isn't easy listening in any sense of the word, but you have to nod your head to the nasty bass tremors on "Rosies" that echo the collaborations of Techno Animal and Alec Empire.

There are traces of the organic instruments Tobin previously used, especially in the orchestral swells that dramatize a few of the tracks. More often they're stitched into the frames, as with the rumbling double bass that forms the engine of "Searchers". The later songs slow down for a series of drifting atmospheres punctuated by dubby upstrokes or hints of Brazilian percussion, and it's increasingly mind-boggling to believe that all the featured sounds originate from a sampler. But Tobin insists on his method, so we have to imagine that the plips and plops of "Proper Hoodidge" might have been guitar licks at some point, and that the ominous drone haunting "El Wraith" may have been a foghorn in a past life. Describing all the ethereal sounds flooding the beautiful closer "Mighty Micro People" would require a few hundred words alone.

Out From Out Where's most dynamic workouts bounce along energetically, completely enamored of themselves; "Verbal" comes close to dopey big beat territory, with vocals from MC Decimal R diced into Prefuse and Chipmunks soundbytes. Tobin's definitely out to have some fun with this record, though the immense density of these soundscapes prevent them from being reduced to chop-shop filler. Unfortunately, he seems less interested in taking you on a journey, as each piece ends in roughly the same place as it begins. Where the pleasure lies here, however, is in listening to the rich layers unfold, and the music just glows, filled with his enthusiasm. Amon Tobin may never put out a party album, but this is probably as close as he's going to get.

Amon Tobin is often hailed as one of Uk's most knowledgeable and avant garde junglist. Unlike intelligent junglists such as Alex Reece, Tobin managed to distill jazz influences in his music without having it end as mere 'intelligent jungle' or jazzy coffee table music.

muss sagen, ich habe echt noch nie etwas von ihm gehört....

aber ich habe mich auch schlau gemacht:

Drum'n'bass deviant Amon Tobin fuses hip-hop and jazz compositional ideas with the bustling rhythms of hip-hop and jungle and the bent sonic mayhem of ambient and dub. Unlike rolling junglists such as Alex Reece and Wax Doctor, however, who draw from a softer, "cooler" brand of jazz, Tobin aims to maintain the heat of bop and free, pairing spry, galloping basslines with complex trapset orchestration and shrill, screaming horns. A native of Brazil, Tobin moved to the U.K. in the mid-'80s, when hip-hop was beginning to take hold and the rhythms of breakbeat electro-funk were replacing reggae and punk as the underground youth music of choice. Currently residing in Brighton, Tobin didn't begin seriously making music until college, but his passion for the sampler, as well as the support and encouragement of no less of breakbeat scientists than Ninebar and Ninja Tune immediately convinced him to forgo a university career to focus on music (he was a few years into a photography degree when he put the whole project on hold). He began with a trio of EPs (a pair for Ninebar, as well as the Creatures EP for Ninja Tune) and a full-length as Cujo (Adventures in Foam, on Ninebar). Bricolage, his first LP under his own name, was released in mid-1997. Beginning with 1998's Permutation, Amon Tobin full-lengths followed every other year, including Supermodified in 2000 and Out from Out Where in 2002. Tobin has also performed remix and production work, for fellow native Brazilians Bebel Gilberto and Airto Moreira as well as Ninja Tune compatriots Coldcut and the Irresistible Force.

hab gestern eure postings leider total verschlafen (IMG:http://www.technoboard.at/style_emoticons/default/confused.gif) und bin erst jetzt wieder mit von der partie. ..
also ich hab einige sets und tracks von dem herren tobin zuhause und ich halte ihn für einen wahrhaft grandiosen musiker. leider schaffe ich es nicht seinen stil eindeutig zu beschreiben, ist ein mix aus vielen stilen und ich finde es kann ein fantastischer abend werden für alle die einfach gute
M U S I K
hören wollen und nicht "guten techno, guten house, guten ...blablabla"
und somit sicherlich für einige (viele?) von euch interessant...
bzgl. overdrive: also ich hab mich jetzt ned mit dem event selbst beschäftigt und weiß nicht wer dort spielt aber im endeffekt denk ich mir: wenn ich techno hören will kann ich auch in linz bleiben...
