Between the 25th and 28th of August 2011 the impressive postindustrial remaining of a former KWK Katowice (Katowice Coal Mine) which dominate the scenery of Katowice (Capitol of the Upper Silesia Region) shall once again be transformed into a mekka of unpretentious dance electronics rythms in the world of contemporary music. Tauron Nowa Muzyka Festiwal, in it’s sixth year running, has gone from an event first put together by a group of true enthusiasts to being one of the most important summer music events in Poland. The internet votes cast by our viewers, which made it possible for TNM to feature in various poles and rankings, have proved the growing demand for a festival that would allow the biggest stars of electronic music and the most interesting upcoming artists about to breach to fame, share the stage and influance each other. The Best Small European Festival 2010 given to us last year by the European Festivals has reassured us that puting this festival together and making it just the way we wanted to, was the right decission and that we have achieved on of our main goals: to create an event that would promote music absent in the mass media, as well as promoting Katowice and the whole Silesian Region and Poland in general. During the last five years we were very happy and privlidged to host true legends of the independent music scene: the Japanese master of the decks DJ Krush, Brazilianking of broken beats Amon Tobin, one of the most expressive rapers in british hip-hop Roots Manuva or the man that singlehandly introduced soul to the XXI century incredible Jamie Lidell. Our festival bacame a great opportunity to whitness what the future of hip-hop holds when we invited Scroobius Pip and Speech Debelle, who are the artists behind some of the groundbreaking new sounds and genders of the last couple of years – Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke or The Gaslamp Killer. We have also successfully showcased the best of the homegrown, polish talents and allowed them to share the stage with international stars. 2011 and the sixth edition of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Festiwal will bring you even more surprises and exitement. We have so far confirmed live presence from Apparat Band Live (first time in Poland), Modeselektor, Lamb, Gold Panda (first time in Poland), Little Dragon, Bonaparte (first time in Poland), Mary Anne Hobbs (curating her very own stage at TNM 2011 with co-artists: Instra:mental, Lorn, Darkstar, Boxcutter, Roska, Oris Jay – most of them for the first time in Poland), Jamie Woon, Mount Kimbie, DELS, Spoek Mathambo and many many more (some still not announced)! All this is just a teaser of what will happen in Katowice during the last weekend of August, as we are planning to move more from the main festival grounds and invade the city of Katowice territory. Apart from the tremendous music section Tauron Nowa Muzyka is also full of great accompanying events like photography workshops run by some of the biggest names in professional photography in Poland, music workshops focused on music production and the art of sound mastering, alternatiff Turistik – guided tours of the postindustrial heritage of the Silesian Region, bike tours around Silesia and many more not yet announced! Come to Katowice this summer and become a part of a great festival in a stunning surrounding of a former coal mine.
