Friday 27th of February I was booked for Landikolaris which was to take place in Casablanca, Celje. Stupid as it was from me, the agreement was made by mail, and no contract was signed. Usually I know most the people that book me, or they are good friends of people I know. But just starting to become an international DJ, this was the first mayor event that I played for someone I didn't know from before. A solid contract was already in the making, but wasn't used yet for this event.

Now you can see the problem already emerging: There were problems with the payment. After playing we went to collect the money, and was given part of the money with the choice to either wait for the rest or get the rest later in the week. Having to return to Amsterdam only days after, I desided to wait for the money. After talking with some people I found out that the organiser had already left to go home and he had done so without even a word to me or a notice to talk about it later.

Looking for a solution for this problem I encountered other DJ's who shared a simmilar faith. Various others were either not payed or not fully payed. Failure to reach the organiser started to worry me and stories by people/DJ's who told me this sort of thing happens frequently over there didn't help either, so I desided to take matters into my own hands. After the party ended I warned that I would take the CD-player (Pioneer CDJ 100S) if there wasn't something done about this situation. Ofcourse nothing was done, so as said I unplugged the CDplayer and took it with me when I left. I didn't hide taking it, as I saw it more as a statement towards the promoter and the club then really stealing a CD-player I really have no use for.

The day after I mailed him asking him what was up with the rest of the payment, and I got a decent and friendly reply back, telling me that he will have to speak to the owner of casablanca and hopes it would be possible to pay me the rest of the money. I was just writing a long mail back wanting to explain the situation with the CD-player and the hows and why's, when I got a very angry organiser on the phone. What was said (despite the rather aggressive tone) we'll leave out of it for now, as back and forth messaging shows that the organiser has nothing to do with the money-issues of that particular party, so I don't want to put him and his organisation in a bad light just because he went home early because he was tired. I will not name him or the organisation, as it is confirmed that he is NOT to blame, most people probably know who it is anyway, but still. The fault lies mostly at the management of Casablanca.

Anyway: either he or the owners of Casablanca were to blaim for this situation, and me 'stealing' the CD-player was simply to make sure I will get payed for the work I have delivered as agreed. I have and have never had the intention to keep it, and would simply sell it for the amount missing if there is no response from the person who is responsible for this.

DJ's beware, learn a valuable lesson from my mistakes and make sure your affairs are in order, and that payment is arranged up front whenever possible. Some form of contract ( Copy and edit this one if you like ) can mostly prevent you from situations like this, so set one up. Most of the time a DJ is not to blame for a party not having enough visitors, so why should you be punished for it?

Please help us blacklist these 2 organisations ( Casablanca and Starlight ) as much as possible, by posting it on all DJ-sites and booking-agencies you know. The situation here isn't solved yet, but I will keep you all updated what goes on.

The original thread was posted on Slovenia's biggest party-forum, and after support from many promoters and DJ's the organiser and club will be blacklisted throughout Slovenia thanx to this!!

Please show your support HERE! and show your outrage HERE!

Thanx for your time,

Rydel and various other DJ's
