Tiffany: I had to keep my relationship with Jonathan Knight on the down low
By Hollie McKay Daily 411 Published August 22, 2013 FoxNews.com
tiffany While Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez had no problem flaunting their on-again/off-again relationship, back in the day, '80s pop sensation Tiffany Darwish -- known simply as Tiffany -- said her handlers had a conniption when she hooked up with New Kids on the Block singer Jonathan Knight.
tiffany outlet locations “It wasn’t acceptable then because if you were a teen heartthrob, they wanted to see you be very available so I think we really had a harder time back then. I’m sure there is still some backlash when the younger teens start to date, but (for us) it was on the down-low,” she told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column. “When people found out, the girls usually take the hit more because the guys have these die-hard girl fans, but it is a different situation when you have young teenage girls. I had girls that were all about my jean jackets and what type of perfume I was wearing, but a few years later when I was dating [Jonathan], they were scouring mad at me.”
tiffany jewelry outlet That’s not the only thing about the business that has changed. Tiffany, 41, said today, being a pop star is more about corporate alliances and less about talent.
tiffany and co “Partnering with brands seems to be very important nowadays, and those opportunities seem to be awesome when they come your way. I think before, in the '80s, it was more about fashion and music videos and a lot of radio. Getting out there and the fans learning who you were and your music,” she said. “Now there are so many different avenues like social media, but it’s also cool as an artist to get the opportunity to step outside myself and show a different side of myself as a personality.”
tiffany outlet Like her ice cream side! The songstress followed in the footsteps of comedian Joel McHale and “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” actor Carlton Banks to film her own “ What Would You Do For a Klondike Bar ?” celebrity challenge video, taking her iconic 1987 hit “I Think We’re Alone Now” to a Los Angeles mall where she does everything from interrupt men going about their business in the bathroom to fitting guys for suits.
tiffany rings “It was one of the things that used to be on my rider when I would do my shows,” Tiffany insisted. “I would always ask for a Klondike bar. It has great memories.”
But Tiffany's not stopping with frozen treats.
“I want to write a book, I just started on my own line of jean jackets, opened a boutique in Tennessee. There are a few things, but especially (I want to do) hosting and I’m getting more into television, perhaps with food or cooking,” she said. “The difference between when I started and now, is that now I am able to really be myself and talk about my life.”

We expect Tiffany & Co. (TIF), the designer, manufacturer and retailer of fine jewelry, to beat expectations when it reports second-quarter fiscal 2013 results on Aug 27, 2013.
Why a Likely Positive Surprise?
Our proven model shows that Tiffany is likely to beat earnings because it has the right combination of two key components.
Positive Zacks ESP: Tiffany currently has an Earnings ESP (Read: Zacks Earnings ESP: A Better Method) of +2.70%. This is because the Most Accurate Estimate stands at 76 cents, while the Zacks Consensus Estimate is pegged at 74 cents.
Zacks Rank #2 (Buy): Note that stocks with a Zacks Ranks of #1, #2 and #3 have a significantly higher chance of beating earnings estimates. The sell-rated stocks (Zacks Rank #4 and #5) should never be considered going into an earnings announcement.
The combination of Tiffany’s Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) and +2.70% ESP makes us very confident regarding a positive earnings beat on Aug 27.
What is Driving the Better-than-Expected Earnings?
We believe Tiffany holds a significant position in the world jewelry market, and its long-term growth prospects remain encouraging, given its new product launches and focus on enhancing its geographic reach through the store expansion program. The positive trend is seen in the trailing four-quarter average surprise of 2.3%.
Stocks that Warrant a Look
Here are some other companies you may want to consider as our model shows they have the right combination of elements to post an earnings beat this quarter:
Citi Trends, Inc. (CTRN), Earnings ESP of +10.00% and a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
Five Below, Inc. (FIVE), Earnings ESP of +11.11% and a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
Dollar Tree, Inc. Dixon, Franchitti in 2nd Ganassi prototype for GRAND-AM Laguna Seca

watches After this coming Sunday’s Grand Prix of Baltimore (2 p.m. ET, NBCSN), the IZOD IndyCar Series will go idle for more than a month. That makes for a lot of free time, and the Target Chip Ganassi Racing duo of Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti will be spending some of theirs in a GRAND-AM Daytona Prototype.
best replica patek philippe watches With help from Ganassi backer Cessna Aircraft Company, Dixon and Franchitti will run a second CGR prototype, the No. 02 Cessna BMW/Riley, alongside full-timers Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas (No. 01 Telcel-TELMEX BMW/Riley) in the Rolex Series’ race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Sept. 8.
patek philippe watches The event on California’s Monterey Peninsula will be the penultimate round for the Rolex Series in 2013, and Pruett and Rojas, the defending Rolex DP champions, are sitting just five points out of first place in this year’s title battle.
patek philippe replica watches With Wayne Taylor Racing (No. 10; drivers Jordan Taylor and Max Angelelli), Christian Fittipaldi and Joao Barbosa of Action Express Racing, Starworks Motorsport (No. 2; drivers Alex Popow and Ryan Dalziel), GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing (No. 99; drivers Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty) and Ganassi’s No. 01 all going at it for the crown, one has to wonder if Dixon and Franchitti’s No. 02 could have a major impact on the proceedings.
patek philippe replica watches “Anytime you can pair two of the best IndyCar drivers out there in the same car makes for an immediate contender,” said Chip Ganassi Racing Teams president Steve Lauletta in a statement.
replica patek philippe nautilus “We try and assemble an impressive lineup in the No. 02 car for the Rolex 24 At Daytona each season, and this year we’ve been able to provide more opportunities for our sponsors, like with Tony Kanaan and Joey Hand at Indianapolis, and now Scott and Dario for Cessna at Laguna Seca.”
Dixon and Franchitti were part of the No. 02 team for this year’s Rolex 24, in which they finished 11th in DP and 37th overall after a crash and then a subsequent mechanical failure.

northface INSIDE SLANT

north face jackets The Atlantic Coast Conference needed a boost, and Clemson provided it just in time.

arcteryx outlet Facing a trio of significant opening-week showdowns against the powerful Southeastern Conference, Clemson's victory against Georgia collected some credibility for the ACC, which has been on the receiving end of some nasty blows the past few years.

arcteryx outlet sale 2012 The Tigers figured to be the standard bearer for the ACC this season, so the 38-35 home victory against a Top 10 team was significant.

arcteryx jackets Clemson became the first non-SEC team to ever defeat Top 10 SEC teams in consecutive games. The Tigers achieved the first part of this trick by defeating LSU in the 2012 Chick-fil-A Bowl.

arcteryx outlet The ACC lost encounters when North Carolina fell to South Carolina along with Virginia Tech's setback to Alabama in Atlanta. No doubt, Clemson saved the opening week.

The ACC split a couple of other games that might have been notable at least in perception on a national scale. Virginia toppled visiting Brigham Young, while conference newcomer Syracuse dropped a decision to Penn State in East Rutherford, N.J.

So while it wasn't such an overwhelming opening week that would cause the ACC to stick out its collective chests, at least Clemson salvaged some pride.

BOSTON COLLEGE

GAME REWIND: Boston College 24, Villanova 10. The Eagles had a tussle with Villanova before securing the victory in the first game under coach Steve Addazio. Chase Rettig threw two touchdown passes and Andre Williams helped balance the offense with 114 rushing yards for Boston College, which didn't allow a point after the first quarter and scored all of the game's 17 second-half points.

TAKEAWAY: The Eagles don't have the makeup or the background to be overwhelming opponents on their schedule, and even a FCS foe such as Villanova provided challenging moments.

But the Eagles also have a decent stock of skill players and those were some of the guys who came through in the opener. They'll need more from quarterback Chase Rettig, who seemed to do better with more play-action opportunities in the second half.

"Our first goal was to win the opener," Addazio said.

The good part for the Eagles was that it took some improvising and adjustments along the way. They weren't able to overpower Villanova and they had to figure out how to get the job done. They probably learned more about their team than many teams in the opening week.

NOTES:

--Alex Amidon had a career-high 13 receptions in the opener against Villanova. That puts him on a good pace considering he set a single-season school record a year ago with 78 catches.

--FB Bobby Wolford entered the program as a linebacker, but the redshirt freshman notched the first points of the season for the Eagles when he caught a 1-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter Saturday.

NEXT: vs. Wake Forest, Sept. 6

CLEMSON

GAME REWIND: Clemson 38, Georgia 35. It proved to be one of the most compelling matchups of the first week of the college season and the Tigers had enough for the home victory with Tajh Boyd throwing for three touchdowns and rushing for two more. Junior receiver Sammy Watkins showed up, too, with a stirring, career-long 77-yard run and catch that helped upend the No. 5 team in the country.

TAKEAWAY: The Tigers had to showcase their offensive weapons right away in order to defeat Georgia. For Clemson, it's a good thing it has lots of firepower when it comes to offense.

With Boyd involved in all aspects of Clemson's production in the opener, he certainly thrust himself into the Heisman Trophy discussion. Now he'll have a couple of months to back that up.

It's easy to gush about Clemson's offense and that's bound to be the case throughout the season if the Tigers stay on track. But the defense had to stiffen at times against Georgia and that unit showed the ability to rise to the occasion.

The defense had to contend with Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, who's rated as one of the best signal-callers in the country. This should give the Clemson defense a boost of confidence.

NOTES:

--RB Rod McDowell gained 132 rushing yards for the Tigers, proving they could be able to move on without Andre Ellington in the backfield. The graduate student was making his first collegiate start.

--LB Spencer Shuey was in on 12 tackles for the Tigers. He also recovered a fumble. He's a fifth-year player who was only a part-time starter last season.

NEXT: vs. South Carolina State, Sept. 7

DUKE

GAME REWIND: Duke 45, North Carolina Central 0. The Blue Devils recorded their first shutout in 24 years and the first blanking of a visiting opponent since 1978 when it defeated an in-city opponent. Duke scored 14 points in each of the first three quarters, making for a rather smooth outing.

TAKEAWAY: The Blue Devils are still in position to covet any type of success even after their first bowl appearance in 18 years to cap the 2012 season. So a romp past FCS opponent North Carolina Central felt good to the Blue Devils and their ability to spread out the offense had to be comforting.

"It was a good tempo for us and we got a lot of plays in and I think coach (David Cutcliffe) wants a little faster," said quarterback Anthony Boone, who was a starter at the beginning of the season for the first time.

The versatility of the offense was displayed by quarterback Brandon Connette, who's usually a short-yardage or goal-line specialist. He threw two touchdown passes.

Even with the 45 points, it's the defense that might have made the most strides because the Blue Devils were regularly roughed up during the latter part of last season. Even the reserves were up to the task to keep the shutout in place during the late stages of the opener.

NOTES:

--S Jeremy Cash made the first tackle for Duke this season while defending in pass coverage. Cash, a transfer from Ohio State, made his Blue Devils debut after sitting out last season per NCAA transfer rules.

--WR Jamison Crowder returned a punt for a touchdown for the first time in his college career on a 76-yard burst. By the end, he had 113 yards on punt returns for the fourth-highest single-game total in school history.

NEXT: at Memphis, Sept. 7

GEORGIA TECH

GAME REWIND: Georgia Tech 70, Elon 0. This was a mismatch and it ended up as the most lopsided result for an ACC game in history. The score was 42-0 at halftime, so there wasn't a lot of real serious work needed from the first-team units.

TAKEAWAY: The Yellow Jackets might have to wait awhile before they learn much about themselves because they overwhelmed Elon in such a manner that not a lot was revealed. Next comes an open date on the schedule, so they'll have two weeks to wonder how they stack up before a potential real test.

At least the Yellow Jackets didn't have to show much in terms of the playbook as they held a 28-0 edge less than 11 1/2 minutes into the game.

The Yellow Jackets could have stood to receive more of a challenge on defense because they were vulnerable in areas a year ago and this exercise didn't do much to sort things out.

Some of the numbers were staggering for the Yellow Jackets, though those also made it an easy path. You have to go back 51 years before finding a game when Georgia Tech scored more points, and its 173 yards in interception returns set a school record.

NOTES:

--QB Vad Lee's first collegiate start resulted in 189 passing yards and another 49 yards running the ball. He's from Durham, N.C., which is about 40 miles from Elon's campus. But for his next game, he'll be in his hometown when the Yellow Jackets visit Duke.

--S Chris Milton was involved in several momentum types of plays, with a blocked punt and an interception for a touchdown. The block, the interception and the touchdown were all career firsts for the redshirt sophomore.

NEXT: at Duke, Sept. 14

FLORIDA STATE

GAME REWIND: Opener is on Labor Day night at Pittsburgh.

TAKEAWAY: The Seminoles are the defending ACC champions and they start the season with a conference assignment by going to Pittsburgh. Florida State is picked second in the Atlantic Division behind Clemson in this year's preseason media poll.

There's a bit of an overhaul for the Seminoles, who'll have at least 13 new starters and six new assistant coaches when the season begins.

NOTES:

--WR Rashad Greene was third nationally in punt returns last year with 15.4 yards per return. That figure was bolstered by his ability to return two of the boots for touchdowns.

--CB Lemarcus Joyner is worth watching as he makes the transition to cornerback. He was honored in 2012 for his work as a safety.

NEXT: at Pittsburgh, Sept. 2

MARYLAND

GAME REWIND: Maryland 43, Florida International 10. C.J. Brown put away any doubts about his condition after missing the 2012 with a torn knee ligament when he scored two touchdowns and threw for three touchdowns in the opener. He racked up 105 rushing yards and produced another 281 yards through the air.

TAKEAWAY: The Terrapins were on top of things from the start because they scored on their first four possessions. So the one thing they didn't experience was adversity when the game was still in doubt other than having to settle for a couple of first-quarter field goals.

C.J. Brown is in his final season as Maryland's quarterback and he has the potential of bringing stability to the position if he remains healthy. So with that in mind it will be worth watching to see if the Terrapins continue to make him such a focal point of nearly everything they do on offense.

One thing Brown did was overshadow WR Stephon Diggs, who was good for 98 receiving yards. Diggs became such a dynamic player last season as a freshman when he was the primary source of excitement for the Terrapins.

Now Maryland could have the right mix if Brown maintains his edge and he could alleviate some of the attention that was growing on Diggs.

NOTES:

--LWB L.A. Goree made 10 tackles in the opener. The junior has led the Terrapins in tackling for four consecutive games going back to last season.

--WR Deon Long posted 110 receiving yards on nine catches. It was a nice debut for the junior college transfer from Iowa Western in his college journey that began at West Virginia and then included a stop at New Mexico.

Next: vs. Old Dominion, Sept. 7

MIAMI

GAME REWIND: Miami 34, Florida Atlantic 6. The Hurricanes used Duke Johnson 's running ability to subdue Florida Atlantic in the opener. Johnson's 187 rushing yards were the most for a Miami player in almost eight years, and it was a solid if not spectacular tune-up for the Hurricanes before Florida comes calling.

TAKEAWAY: The cloud of an NCAA investigation hangs above the Hurricanes, who are in their third season that could be impacted by sanctions. While that remains unresolved, it's full-speed ahead for the Hurricanes on the field.

This could shape up as one of their best recent teams and they'll have a chance to display some of that progress with a game against Florida.

Florida Atlantic is a struggling program, so it's difficult to tell how much the Hurricanes gained from this performance. Quarterback Stephen Morris wasn't as sharp as he had been during the preseason, and coach Al Golden expressed a couple of times that he was troubled by the team's lack of efficiency when throwing the ball.

That will give the Hurricanes something to address immediately. "It's a shame," Golden said. "We didn't look like we had our timing."

NOTES:

--RB Duke Johnson departed in the third quarter of the opener amid reports that he was evaluated for a concussion. The Hurricanes have been tight-lipped about his status. The sophomore gained a career-best 187 rushing yards on 19 carries before his exit.

--QB Stephen Morris probably will do most of his damage through the air. His 16 rushing yards in the opener were his top total against a non-league opponent.

NEXT: vs. Florida, Sept. 7

NORTH CAROLINA

GAME REWIND: South Carolina 27, North Carolina 10. The Tar Heels fell in an early hole and couldn't dig out, with its offense the main culprit. The defense faltered early, and by the end the Tar Heels had given up two scoring plays of 65 yards or more.

TAKEAWAY: The Tar Heels didn't show signs of much-anticipated improvement, but going against the sixth-ranked team in the country on the road certainly accounted for some of the problems. Still, it was the lowest-scoring output in coach Larry Fedora's 13 outings with the team.

"We've got to execute," Fedora said. "If we execute like that, it isn't going to matter for us. We won't have a chance."

The offense is supposed to be the bread and butter of this team, so the slippery opening could be cause for some concern. The Tar Heels are trying to go at a break-neck speed with a no-huddle approach.

Fedora's second-half decision to punt in South Carolina territory caused some eyebrow-raising, particularly for a team that's supposedly built on a high-octane offense.

North Carolina averaged more than 40 points per game in 2012.

NOTES:

--QB Bryn Renner stretched his streak of passes without an interception to 134 attempts stretching to last season. This came despite the Tar Heels trailing throughout in the opener at South Carolina and finding themselves in obvious passing situations.

--WR Quinshad Davis, the only player from South Carolina on the North Carolina roster, scored the only touchdown for the Tar Heels in the opener. Davis made four receptions covering 39 yards (both team-high totals) in the return to his home state.

NEXT vs. Middle Tennessee, Sept. 7

NORTH CAROLINA STATE

GAME REWIND: N.C. State 40, Louisiana Tech 14. The Wolfpack made the debut for coach Dave Doeren a good one against visiting Louisiana Tech, which didn't get untracked in its first game under coach Skip Holtz. The Wolfpack compiled almost 550 yards of total offense.

TAKEAWAY: Much was made about the secrecy regarding the starting quarterback situation, with a starter revealed on game day. Brandon Mitchell, a transfer from Arkansas, got the call, but it turned out to be short-lived because he was out of the game and on crutches before halftime.

That meant the Wolfpack turned the reins to Pete Thomas, who sat out last season upon arriving as a transfer from Colorado State.

A rushing attack that supplied 237 yards to the offense was a boost in the right direction for a team that had relied on passing so much the past couple of years that the ground game sometimes appeared to become an afterthought.

NOTES:

--RB Matt Dayes, a freshman, scored three touchdowns only on 17 attempts in his debut. He has the makeup to be a workhorse type of back, though making the transition to the college level tends to be considerably more taxing as the season wears on.

--RB Shadrach Thornton will be eligible to return for the second game of the season after sitting out the opener for a team-assessed suspension after his summer arrest on charges of assault on a female. Coach Dave Doeren said he has been impressed with Thornton's response to the situation, though he hasn't revealed plans to bring him back into the offense's rotation.

NEXT: vs. Richmond, Sept. 7

PITTSBURGH

Game: Opener is on Labor Day night vs. Florida State.

TAKEAWAY: The Panthers won't ease into the ACC era as their first assignment is a home outing against defending league champion Florida State. The game will air on national television, giving the Panthers exposure right away.

Pittsburgh and Florida State haven't met in 30 years and as members of opposite division in the ACC, they won't face each other all that often unless they reach the conference championship game.

The game will mark the start of the second season for Paul Chryst, so after a rather ho-hum first season, this is an ideal opportunity to create warm and fuzzy feelings with the fan base if the Panthers can pull an upset.

NOTES:

--WR Devin Street has 2,047 career receiving years entering the season. He'll need 1,015 yards this season to catch Antonio Bryant as the school's all-time leader in that category.

--DT Aaron Donald led the Big East with 18.5 tackles for loss last season. He'll look to make more disruptions against a new cast of opponents.

NEXT: New Mexico, Sept. 14

SYRACUSE

GAME REWIND: Penn State 23, Syracuse 17. Syracuse had possession in the waning minutes but wasn't able to put together a second fourth-quarter touchdown drive, so the Orange lost in the coaching debut for Syracuse's Scott Shafer. The neutral-site game was played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., where the crowd of more than 61,000 was reported to be about evenly split.

TAKEAWAY: Maybe it's clear why the Orange was hesitant to name a starting quarterback because Drew Allen had his moments but he had perhaps more stretches of difficulty. It wasn't revealed that Allen, a transfer from Oklahoma, would be the starter until game day.

He completed only 16 of 37 passes, with the Orange held to 189 yards. Allen needs seasoning because his previous college experience consisted of mop-up duties for Oklahoma.

If that becomes a trend, it's going to be a drastically different outlook than in recent seasons. The Orange could trend back to putting more emphasis on a rushing attack.

Syracuse's defense secured four turnovers, but the inability to turn those into more points tended to be the most crushing blow for the Orange.

NOTES:

--QB Terrel Hunt was the other quarterback in the mix to be the starter for the Orange. So don't be surprised if he has a chance to show what he can do, particularly if there's an offense that sputters.

--RB Jerome Smith scored both of the Orange's touchdowns in the opener. The junior had a total of four touchdown runs in the first 25 games of his career.

NEXT: at Northwestern, Sept. 7

VIRGINIA

GAME REWIND: Virginia 19, Brigham Young 16. The Cavaliers went ahead in the final three minutes on Kevin Parks' 13-yard touchdown run to win a game in which it was severely outgained and survived two turnovers. Virginia's defense was solid until yielding a 92-yard drive in the fourth quarter.

TAKEAWAY: The Cavaliers were fortunate to win this game, but these are the types of games that too often haven't gone their way under coach Mike London. But London is usually on the right side in openers as he became the first coach in school history to win the first game of a season in his first four years.

Now it's a matter of addressing a multitude of areas that looked rather ragged, even for an opening day. It's no mystery that the offense might have some trouble spots, but those appeared rather obvious as times.

Winning a game when picking up only 14 first downs and looking out of sorts at times on offense might be the kind of pick-me-up that the Cavaliers can learn from.

NOTES:

--S Anthony Harris provided a do-everything type of performance in the opener, with an interception and a blocked punt setting up Virginia scores. He also notched 11 tackles, including a sack, and he's up for national weekly honors after that outing.

--K Ian Frye showed his range with a 53-yard field goal. He has attempted only six field goals in his career, but his longest successful kick prior to Saturday came on a 30-yarder last year against Wake Forest.

NEXT: vs. Oregon, Sept. 7

VIRGINIA TECH

GAME REWIND: Alabama 35, Virginia Tech 10. The Hokies were so miserable on offense that even a reasonably solid effort from the defense couldn't make enough of a difference at the Georgia Dome. The Hokies trailed less than two minutes into the game, so there was barely time to settle in, when they gave up a punt return for a touchdown.

TAKEAWAY: The Hokies have rarely been considered such an underdog, but they're a largely regrouping team and starting the season against Alabama was no treat.

Close to half of the Virginia Tech players in uniform at the Georgia Dome had yet to be on the field for a college snap. Further, nine true freshmen played in the first half for the Hokies, the most for Virginia Tech since 2000.

From that perspective, it wasn't a total misstep for the Hokies. Now the key will be turning this rapid-fire type of experience into something positive. They came away with no shortage of areas to address.

Perhaps most pressing will be eliminating game-altering plays. Until Saturday, the Hokies hadn't given up a defensive and special teams touchdown in the same game since 1996 against Syracuse. Another sobering note was that the Hokies' seven first downs marked the fewest first downs for the team six managing only six in a 1998 game against Syracuse.

NOTES:

--QB Logan Thomas had an unthinkable opening performance by completing 5 of 26 passes for 59 yards. He was also picked off once. Given that he entered the season as one of the ACC's most proven quarterbacks, that was a disturbing outing.

--RB Trey Edmunds scored the Hokies' lone touchdown on a 77-yard run in the first quarter, quite a thrill for the redshirt freshman. He gained 132 yards on 20 carries.

NEXT: vs. Western Carolina, Sept. 7

WAKE FOREST

GAME REWIND: Wake Forest 31, Presbyterian 7. It wasn't an overwhelming performance for the Demon Deacons, though after surrendering an early touchdown the defensive unit was pretty much impenetrable. But the matchup came against a struggling FCS team and there will be more telltale assignments in the coming weeks.

TAKEAWAY: The Demon Deacons are putting more emphasis on returning to a run-oriented offense, so that could take away some of the flash.

The first game with this commitment to rely less on passing was far from a huge success, and the rushing attack wasn't exactly crisp. On the flip side, the Demon Deacons have been tight-lipped about much of their plans and you can be sure they avoided showing too much of the playbook.

Still, they could have used a little more zip to their ground game. With as much attention the returning of running back Josh Harris for his senior season (after the school waited for an NCAA appeal to restore his eligibility in August), he didn't do much to follow through in the opener. He was rather ordinary, though he did enough during his shortened preseason to climb back to the top of the depth chart at the tailback spot.

NOTES:

--WR Michael Campanaro didn't play in the opener because of what was described as a slight hamstring injury. He missed time with a hamstring ailment during the opening month of the 2011 season as well and then had a broken bone in one of his hands last year that cost him time, so durability has become a topic of concern for one of the league's most versatile players.

--WR Jonathan Williams , a redshirt freshman, produced a memorable debut by making five catches for 143 years. He could emerge as the complementary receiver for Campanaro. Or if Campanaro is out for an extended period, Williams could move to the forefront.

NEXT: at Boston College, Sept. 6

NOTES, QUOTES

--Expect Florida State to try to make a statement in the opener with Pittsburgh as these are the last two teams in the ACC to get their seasons started with a Labor Day night matchup. It's a conference game so that adds value to the game, though teams in the mix for a potential run at a national championship must assume that any game is critical.

The Seminoles are probably feeling a little hurt by preseason projections that Clemson is the top cat in the ACC. After all, the Seminoles are the defending champions and they're accustomed to the preseason attention and seeing how they might factor into the bigger picture.

--Maryland's final season in the ACC began with a victory and it could shape up as one of the better seasons in recent years for the Terrapins. They leave home only once in the opening month of the season, and that's a trip to Connecticut, which lost to Towson (conveniently located in Maryland) in its first game.

The Terrapins would like nothing better than to make some noise as they exit the ACC. While it will be an uphill climb by the end of the schedule, if they can make it through the first third of the season unscathed, they'll certainly in be position to turn some heads and draw some attention before their foray to the Big Ten.

--New coaches came away with a 2-1 record in openers. North Carolina State's Dave Doeren and Boston College's Steve Addazio were winners in their first games in charge, while Syracuse's Scott Shafer wasn't so fortunate.

Doeren and Addazio arrived from outside their respective programs to taking the coaching positions. Doeren has never lost a home game as a head coach after two seasons of clean home marks with Northern Illinois.

"Starting fast like we did really helps," Doeren said of the opening quarter against Louisiana Tech. "You're able to get on the board and set the pace."

Shafer was promoted from the Syracuse staff for his new role after Doug Marrone bolted for the NFL's Buffalo Bills .

"I hate to lose," Shafer said. "It makes me sick to lose. But I had a blast."

--Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and Duke opened with lopsided victories against Football Championship Subdivision opponents at home and it's difficult to know what of make of those games. Boston College had more of a tussle to put away Villanova.

Still, they might have served as good tune-ups in the sense that with the exception of Boston College, those teams will play their second games on the road.

"I'm glad were on the road (at Memphis) in the second ball game," Duke coach David Cutcliffe said. "We need this test. ... Most teams improve the most, and I don't know if this is true or not but everybody says it, from the first to the second game."

--Coaches regularly take about making adjustments and there's another factor to consider, especially with games early in the season for teams playing in the storm-prone Southeast. That means dealing with conditions and changes, even to the game-day procedures.

Virginia had to deal with a lengthy delay in its home game with Brigham Young when a deluge of rain struck. So that put the game about two hours off schedule.

A storm struck during the fourth quarter of North Carolina's game at South Carolina. While the likely outcome had been decided and North Carolina had to be down in the dumps during the delay, the Tar Heels had more than eight minutes to play when play finally resumed in a mostly empty stadium.

Wake Forest had another type of unexpected issue pop up. Not only was the team less-than-efficient in the early going, there was a power problem at the stadium and the game with visiting Presbyterian went into a delay because the lights went out.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "This was a magical day. The energy all day was incredible and it was capped off by a special night." -- Clemson coach Dabo Swinney, whose team outslugged Georgia 38-35 in the high-scoring game between the teams. The previous top total was 59 points.

STRATEGY AND PERSONNEL

FIVE BIGGEST TAKEAWAYS FROM WEEK 1 IN THE ACC:

1. Clemson could be for real and the Tigers knew they needed that positive outcome against Georgia in order for their stock to rise.

Now the Tigers, assuming they don't take unexpected wayward turns, can enter the meat of their schedule later on with a chance to make a statement on the national scene.

2. Virginia's evolving quarterback situation the past two years has two of its past starters in other programs. That put extra pressure on David Watford, a redshirt sophomore who won the role early in preseason camp but hadn't played since the 2011 season.

The important part for the Cavaliers was that they picked up the victory, doing so despite gaining only 114 passing yards. They'll need more than that in the next game against Oregon.

3. Wake Forest made a living by redshirting newcomers to the program and then benefitting from more mature and stronger players later in their careers. So it was a startling revelation when nine true freshmen made their way into the opener against Presbyterian.

"I just told (assistant coaches) not to put anybody on the field that we're going to feel like we're wasting a year of their eligibility," coach Jim Grobe said. No more than three true freshmen ever played in a season in Grobe's first 12 years on the job.

4. With apprehension about starting quarterbacks with some of the league members, there was only some resolution. That's because the most effective new starters didn't finish games.

In the case of North Carolina State's Brandon Mitchell, he was injured with a broken bone in his foot and will miss at least a month, meaning that Pete Thomas, who didn't win August's quarterback sweepstakes, is now the starter anyway.

For Georgia Tech, sophomore Vad Lee's first start as a college quarterback was such a success that he wasn't around for the end of his team's 70-0 rout of Elon. Nor was Lee challenged enough for the Yellow Jackets to get much of a read on how he might stack up.

5. The season began without an end to the speculation regarding NCAA wrongdoings within the Miami program. The Hurricanes' self-imposed penalties that kept them out of postseason games the past two seasons, yet the uncertainty remains.

There had been a push for the NCAA to wrap up its findings and deliver its verdict before this season began so there wouldn't be potential distractions. This summer, ACC commissioner John Swofford had expressed his desire for some sort of resolution, but it didn't come before the first kickoff.

===========

dress Kate Middleton dressed her baby bump in stylish designers like Armani and Diane von Furstenberg. But most of us commoners can't afford to buy a whole new wardrobe for pregnancy or deck out the kids in high-fashion labels, especially when those kids will soon outgrow their clothes.
discount wedding dresses Thankfully for expectant moms and their brood of babies and kids, a growing number of online options make it easier to find affordable, yet fashionable, clothes. Here's a look at some rental websites and online consignment shops.
cheap wedding dresses Renting Online
cheap wedding dresses online Dress rental company Rent the Runway pioneered a Netflix-like business model for renting designer dresses, in which the renter chooses a dress (or dresses) online and the item is shipped to her along with a prepaid envelope for mailing it back. Several websites including BellyBumpBoutique.com, BorrowforYourBump.com, MotherhoodCloset.com and RentMaternityWear.com now give similar options to expectant mothers.

simple wedding dresses "When women are going to an event like a wedding, they're more apt to rent a dress because it's a little bit more formal and they only want to be seen wearing it once," says Krystal Stubbendeck, founder of Borrow For Your Bump, which launched last fall and is based in Omaha, Neb. "It's economical and you don't have to waste money on items that you can only wear for a couple of months."
The website offers more casual clothing for rental or purchase. Most items on Borrow for Your Bump cost between $20 and $50 to rent for 30 days and include free shipping for purchases of more than $75. For comparison, Belly Bump Boutique focuses more on formal dresses, most of which cost $39 to $79 to rent with a $12.95 shipping fee for every two dresses.
Some new moms save their maternity clothes in anticipation of more pregnancies, but if those pregnancies fall during a different time of year, they may need more seasonally appropriate clothes.
Stubbendeck says the rental concept appeals to women "who like to change up their wardrobe" and rent different outfit combinations each month. It also attracts women who change sizes sooner than they expected. "They were thinking they could get away with wearing their [regular] jeans [throughout their pregnancy] because a friend did, but every woman is different," Stubbendeck adds.
What about rips or stains? Borrow For Your Bump and similar sites typically dry clean formal wear between rentals. Stubbendeck says they also have a seamstress who can replace missing beads or make other repairs. Several of these websites offer damage protection for an extra $5 in case the renter damages an item while wearing it.

Buying Gently Used Online
For new and expectant moms who prefer to buy rather than rent, plenty of websites sell gently used clothing. During her pregnancies, Christine Parizo, a mother of two in western Massachusetts, stretched her budget by buying maternity clothes on eBay. "It's not really worth it to buy maternity clothes new unless you're looking for something very specific, like you have a job where you have to dress a certain way," she says. "I knew that Old Navy's sizing was pretty accurate, so I basically searched 'Old Navy,' 'maternity' and my size. I looked carefully at the photos and asked questions."
Instead of buying individual items and paying to ship each one, she sought several pieces of clothing available in one shipment. In one case, she found five pairs of pants and five sweaters for about $40. "Don't be picky about lots," Parizo says. "They'll be one or two items you're not crazy about, but you'll find a way to make them work or donate them."
Plenty of baby and kids clothes are available inexpensively online, too. When Kelli Bhattacharjee, a Cincinnati mom and the blogger behind FreebieFindingMom.com, wanted a cute outfit for her son's one-year photos, she bought Ralph Lauren khaki pants and a sweater from Thredup.com, a website that sells clothing for women and kids. "I didn't want to spend $50 on a little outfit that he's probably going to wear one time, especially for kids when they go through clothes so quickly," she says.

While plenty of brick-and-mortar shops sell new or used clothes for babies and kids, Bhattacharjee prefers to shop online because of the convenience. "Consignment stores, in my opinion, can be like an outlet where you have to really search to find what you want," she says. "Here, you can set your filters to exactly what you want, and you'll know within 10 minutes if they have it. It's a very efficient way to shop."
Bhattacharjee has bought a few other items from thredUP and says she's been impressed each time. "The quality has been great, and it looks like new," she says. When her son outgrows his Ralph Lauren outfit, Bhattacharjee says she may try to sell it back to thredUP, since they buy items, too.
