Oktober kehrt Cmyk mit seinem Club Pompadour aus der wohlverdienten Sommerpause zurück. Nach einem fulminanten Frühling bringen Cyan, Magenta, Yellow und Key nun gehörig Farbe in den grauen Herbst. Wie gewohnt werden bei Club Pompadour alle Farbfacetten elektronischer Tanzmusik abgedeckt, von Techno bis House, von Minimal bis Electro – und wie gewohnt natürlich mit einem speziellen Gast. Für das Herbst-Opening freut sich Cmyk auf einen besonders ausgefallenen Paradiesvogel: Niemand geringerer als Gregor Tresher wird erstmals aus dem fernen Frankfurt nach Wien eingeflogen! Bei Tresher ist der Name Programm, denn er ist ein „Trescher“ im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes: Er trischt sein Publikum gehörig in den Allerwertesten, so dass auch der faulste Allerwerteste letzten Endes in Bewegung kommt. Kein Wunder dass er im deutschen Raveline-Magazin zum besten Produzenten des Jahres 2006 gewählt wurde. Neben lebenden Legenden wie Whirlpool Productions, Tomcraft und Rockers Hi-Fi ist Gregor Tresher das Aushängeschild der neuen Generation von Great Stuff Recordings, momentan einem der Labels der Stunde. Neben zahlreichen Produktionen auf Great Stuff kann er überdies auf erfolgreiche Produktionen auf Sven Väth's Cocoon-Label und dem Datapunk-Label von Anthony Rother zurückblicken. Aber nicht nur als Produzent, sondern auch als DJ ist Gregor Tresher eine Koriphäe. Auf Großveranstaltungen wie Nature One, Mayday oder der Züricher Streetparade konnte er ebenso glänzen wie im Brüsseler Fuse, der Fabric in London oder dem Loft in Barcelona. Neben technischer Perfektion und untrüglichem Gespür für die richtige Nummer zum richtigen Zeitpunkt zeichnet ihn nicht zuletzt seine musikalische Vielfalt aus: „In einem Set alles zwischen minimalem Tech-House bis hin zu Electro spielen zu können und das in einem spannungsgeladenen Bogen zu präsentieren, ist es, was modernes Deejaying für mich bedeutet“, so Tresher. Man darf am 12. Oktober also ein farbenfrohes, abwechslungsreiches Set erwarten, ganz wie es dem Konzept von Cmyk entspricht! Unterstützt wird Gregor Tresher an diesem Abend nicht nur von den Cmyk-Residents Philipp Blecha und Thomas Grün, sondern auch von Michael Schidlo, ebenfalls aus Frankfurt und seines Zeichens Vertreter der Deliriumhousedivision. Alles in allem ein Programm, das – Cyan, Magenta, Yellow und Key sei Dank – aufkommenden Herbstdepressionen keine Chance lässt! Biografie Gregor Tresher ist in der elektronischen Musik nun wirklich kein Unbekannter mehr: Seit gut sieben Jahren hat sich der 30jährige Produzent aus Rhein-Main um die Modernisierung der Formensprache der elektronischen Musik verdient gemacht. Seit er sich vor zwei Jahren mit seiner „Still“-EP in die erste Riege der deutschen Techno-Produzenten katapultierte, konnte er diesen Anspruch behaupten: Nach einer Vielzahl von Highlights wie „Neon“, „Full Range Madness“ oder „The Now People“ für so renommierte Labels wie Great Stuff, Datapunk, Cocoon oder Terminal M kürten ihn jüngst die Leser des deutschen Raveline-Magazins zum Produzenten des Jahres. Das vergangene Jahr 2006 wurde konsequenterweise zum bislang erfolgreichsten in der Karriere von Gregor Tresher. Nach Kooperationen mit der Londoner DJ-Institution Billy Nasty mit Releases auf Datapunk, Terminal M und Nastys Electrix-Label erschien im März Gregors Doppel-EP „Neon", wiederum auf Datapunk. Insbesondere der Titeltrack wurde zu einem der ganz grossen Hits des Märchensommers 2006. Die fruchtbare künstlerische Beziehung zu Sven Väths Cocoon-Label gipfelte parallel in dem exklusiven Track „Full Range Madness" auf der Cocoon-Compilation F. Außerdem erschienen auf dem Münchener Label Great Stuff Recordings mit „The Now People / Battery" und der brillanten „Open the Gates"-Kooperation mit dem israelischen Mann der Stunde, Guy Gerber, zwei weitere bemerkenswerte Veröffentlichungen. Gregor spielte, inzwischen durch die Booking-Agentur Family Affairs betreut, als DJ sowohl auf den grossen Veranstaltungen wie Nature One, Mayday oder Streetparade, als auch in den renommiertesten Clubs Europas wie der Fabric London, dem Loft Barcelona, dem Fuse Brüssel oder dem Cocoon Club Frankfurt. Verdienter Lohn nach einem intensiven Jahr: Neben dem Spitzenplatz als bester Produzent in der Raveline konnte Gregor auch in den Top Ten der Kategorien bester Newcomer (Platz 5) und bester Track („Full Range Madness", Platz 9) punkten. Treshers musikalische Wurzeln liegen seit jeher im Elektro. Mit seinem Projekt Sniper Mode ging es dabei aber schon früh um eine ästhetische Erweiterung des Motorbeats. Nach dem EP-Debüt „Big City Lights" (Elektrolux, 2001) hatten gerade seine beiden Alben „Wastelands" (2002) und „Travellers Beyond" (2003) die Blaupause für die musikalische Ausrichtung des Elektrolux-Sublabels Mikrolux geliefert. Auch sein zusammen mit Pascal FEOS produzierter Remix für die Synthiepop-Helden Camouflage („Me & You") mag dem einen oder anderen noch im Ohr liegen. Dass Tresher dennoch vieler Orts seit zwei Jahren als einer der heißesten Newcomer gehandelt wird, lag nicht zuletzt an seinen Releases für Anthony Rothers Datapunk-Label, welche die Schnittstelle zwischen Elektro und Techno aufregend neu definierten. „Anfang des neuen Jahrtausends war ich von geraden Beats gelangweilt und wollte mit komplexeren Grooves arbeiten – Elektro war dafür der perfekte Playground. Die Entwicklungen der letzten Jahre und vor allem das Ende der „härter/schneller"-Phase des Techno haben tanzbare elektronische Musik wieder für mich als DJ und als Produzent interessant gemacht. Die Freiheit, Elemente wie z.B. Vocals oder Melodien benutzen zu können, hat das Spektrum elektronischer Tanzmusik ungemein erweitert. Elektro hat für mich deshalb inzwischen eine völlig neue Bedeutung und definiert sich nicht mehr über 808-Beats oder Vocoder-Vocals, sondern steht stilübergreifend für energetische elektronische Musik, frei von Konventionen und Regeln und ausbaubar in jede Richtung." (Tresher, November 2005) An der Spitze dieser spannenden musikalischen Entwicklung standen 2005 mit „Still" und dem „Komm"- Remix des Väth/Rother-Beitrages zur Cocoon-Compilation E zwei Tracks von Gregor Tresher, die in Sven Väths DJ-Koffer einen Ehrenplatz bekamen und deshalb auch konsequenterweise beide auf der Mix-CD „The Sound Of The Sixth Season" vertreten waren, mit der Väth den Sommer 2005 musikalisch Revue passieren ließ. Bestimmt wurde die musikalische Ausrichtung von Gregor ausserdem durch die Tatsache, dass er in den vergangenen beiden Jahren die besten Clubs in ganz Europa rockte: Von London bis Budapest, von Madrid bis Athen, von Marseille bis Berlin. „In einem Set alles zwischen minimalem Tech-House bis hin zu Elektro spielen zu können und das in einem spannungsgeladenen Bogen zu präsentieren, ist es, was modernes Deejaying für mich bedeutet." Elektro ist dabei weder in Treshers Produktionen noch in seinen DJ-Sets eine dogmatische Stilschublade, sondern ein offenes Referenzsystem zwischen Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft elektronischer Musik. Seit Anfang des Jahres sitzt Gregor nun wieder in seinem Studio und arbeitet mit Hochdruck an seinem ersten Album unter eigenem Namen, was noch in diesem Sommer auf Great Stuff Recordings erscheinen wird und mit dem Gregor Tresher direkt im Anschluss auf grosse Tour gehen wird, außerdem stehen Kooperationen mit Monika Kruse, Billy Nasty und Karotte, eigene neue Veröffentlichungen auf Great Stuff, Intacto, Crosstown Rebels und Datapunk und natürlich wieder neue Remix-Arbeiten an. |

Interviewer: Tricky/Partysan Slo The German guru of advanced electronica has won our harts and souls with the last year's mega hit single Full Range Madness. His releases on Border Community, Cocoon, Great Stuff and other influential labels are the must-have for every decent house, trance and techno deejay. The Now People, Battery, Neon, Black Sorcery (with Billy Nasty), The Mad Real World (with Billy Nasty), Open The Gates (with Guy Gerber) are just a few of his most successful titles and he's also the man behind Karotte's production. Gregor will perform at the launch party of Umek new project called 1605 in Ljubljana and he's also scheduled for the autumn release on the new label 1605. *You were voted Producer of the year in Raveline (leading German club magazine) pool. What does this title mean to you as an artist and personally? I was especially happy about it, since I was voted by the readers of that magazine. This is the voice of the fans, so I was very pleased about it. I can't tell about the promotion influences of the results yet, since it's only three months from that. But the feedback from the people is great. *You are working on your new album. Yes, I'm working on it right now. It's going to be released on the Great stuff Records. The first single will come out in the beginning of June, the second in the late summer. At that time I'll also released double CD package with the album on the first CD and bonus CD with the DJ-mix of the tracks I did in the last year. *And if I'm right, you'll be promoting this album as a live act. I'm planning to do that. I'm going on promotional tour for the album in the beginning of June and I'll be doing my live act for the first time this summer. I can't tell you any dates yet, since the tour is still in planning and the live act also. Actually, right now I'm very busy working on live act, since it's a lot of work to do for getting it done. The concept of live performance is based only on one person, me. I did all my music by myself, so it wouldn't make any sense to make other musicians on stage with me. Although I can't tell you much about the set-up since I'm not done yet. But it's going to be basically just me performing my music. *And what is the basic concept of your album? Are following the path of your past production or going to be something very different? It's going to be slightly different. In the last few years I've produced a lot of this electro-techno stuff with thick bass line. The album is going to be a 'bit versatile. But basically it's going to be dance album. Every track is going to be deejay-friendly. I don't see much sense in doing very different stuff on this album. I'm a deejay, I play music and I want the album to be deejay-friendly. But it's not going to be Gregor Tresher sound which I established in the last years. It's going to be something more. *What can we expect to hear from you in Ljubljana? Since this it's a deejay gig, I'm not playing only my music. I basically play all kind of techno music. It derives from minimal techno to the stuff I produce myself. It doesn't get any harder than the music I do myself. *How important wasa for you being included on the Cocoon's Kompilation F? It's been an honour for me to be on there since I find all the other included on the compilation artist very cool. It was great compilation. *You are collaborating a lot with Billy Nasty. How did you two meet? We've got introduced trough mutual friend Anthony Rother. We get along very well and we were in the studio together on the regular basis for the last two years. We're just working on our new track and we have some new stuff scheduled. We've already done some stuff for the new Umek's label 1605 as well. *You are scheduled as one of the first releases on that label. Why did you decide to join Umek? I think Umek and Billy know each other for a long time. We did this new track at the beginning of the year and thinking about where to put it. Billy sent it to Umek and he liked it very well. I know Umek's production for long and feel very good collaborating with him. *Another interesting project is Open The Gates, your joint venture with Guy Gerber, which is also part of Dan elektronike party in Ljubljana. Cocoon hooked us up when I was playing at big German festival Nature One. One of the Cocoon guys told me Guy Gerber was in town and asked me if I want to go to the studio with him. I was up to it, since I really liked his single This Is Balagan. We just did one session in studio for one afternoon and the result of that was Open the Gates. Great Stuff liked it very much, so we've released it there. *Is it common for you to produce your tracks so fast? I believe that if you're in studio and you get something good done, than it usually takes very little time. If you work on something for too long then usually the results are not so good. In my experience the faster you come to results the better it sounds. *You are also the producer behind the Karotte. He's a friend of mine and he actually got me into deejay agency I'm in now. I know him for some time and we get along very good. I produced his record for Great Stuff last year. I'm playing with him from time to time. He's got the residency at the Cocoon Club in Frankfurt. We've played there last year and we'll be playing there again in June 1st, which is the first gig of my album tour. *Hoe do you choose who you'll be working with? Mostly on personal connections. I collaborate on the regular basis with three artists: Billy Nasty, Karotte and lately with Monika Kruse. I've been releasing some of my music trough her label Terminal M. We've been in the studio for two sessions now and we finished two records. The first one will be out in September on 2000 and One's Intacto Records. We've finished the second one two week ago and we're still looking for the label. *Anything else you'll be promoting this Summer. I know I'll be performing at the Cocoon tent at the Nature One festival again this year. Last year was really good. The next big thing is Sonne Mond Sterne. I'll be on Ibiza twice or three times this summer. The biggest focus will be on Album and I'll be doing some remixes again. I didn't do that for the last two, three months since I have to focus on the album. *How cosy are you with the trend of techno going slower and richer in sounds? I've been producing other stiles of music in the past as well. I've been doing electro even chill out and ambient music. I'm pleased that the spectrum is quite open now and you can do whatever you want. And basically that's what I want to happen on the album as well.
