Wien wird auch im Januar und Februar 2008 wieder zur Hauptstadt der Audio-vision! Einen Monat lang stehen Fixpunkte der Stadt ganz im Zeichen der Projektion, des Sounds und der audio-visuellen Kultur. Sound:frame, das Festival zur Visualisierung von elektronischer Musik präsentiert in vielfacher Form Arbeiten, Performances und Theorien der Crème-de-la-Crème internationaler wie nationaler VisualistInnen, VideokünstlerInnen und SoundkünstlerInnen. Die sound:frame Ausstellung im Wiener Künstlerhaus präsentiert von 18. Januar bis 09. Februar fixe Installationen, Projektionen und Videoarbeiten ausgewählter KünstlerInnen. Daneben kann man bei mehreren Live Events an den Wochenenden erneut das Zusammenspiel aus Sound und Projektionen genießen. Zu ganz speziellen audio-visuellen Performances laden wir zusätzlich an ein paar Abenden ein. Internationale und nationale A/V Acts verzaubern mit aufeinander abgestimmten sound- und video Performances. Einen wichtigen Punkt für den internationalen Diskurs stellt diesmal auch das sound:frame Symposion dar. Jeweils an den vier Samstagen, werden internationale ExpertInnen - KünstlerInnen, TheoretikerInnen, VeranstalterInnen u.v.m. – zu diversen Themenschwerpunkten vortragen und diskutieren. Um das Programm abzurunden, bieten wir zusätzlich dazu in Kooperation mit der Fakultät für Architektur (TU Wien) zahlreiche Workshops für VisualistInnen, SoundkünstlerInnen und besonders Interessierte. About Gilb-R: Gilbert Cohen - aka Dj Gilb'r- started as a Hip-Hop Dj cultivating the raw and infectious sound of Public Enemy as well as the conscious and sophisticated rhyming of The Native Tongue Posse ( Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest). As many other French B-Boys, Gilbert built up his record collection by moving from sampled based Hip Hop to its original sources Funk, Soul and Jazz music. His great musical gusto and open-mindedness had him picked up by counter-culture hero Jean François Bizot to be part of Radio Nova's founding team. As a young disc jockey Gilbert helped define Nova's peculiar and über-cool sound : an amazing mixture of world, jazz, electronic, funk and soul music that had deep influence on Paris' burgeoning underground scene. After receiving several demos, Gilbert launched his Versatile imprint (founded March 1996) with the first release of young Parisian producer Nicolas Chaix. Under the I:Cube moniker, Chaix stroke a massive underground hit with his "Picnic Attack Ep" featuring a notoriously groovy Daft Punk Remix. The outspoken southerner and the 25 years old camera shy producer would soon reach perfect musical chemistry, allowing Versatile to remain ahead of the pack throughout the second half of the nineties. During this decade, Gilbert Cohen remained active on all fronts, working as a producer and DJ, radio-host while managing his label. He withdrew from Nova's programming team but retained a weekly residence there. At first dedicated to Drum & Bass ( "Rollin' "), his radio-show evolved to reflect his maturing musical taste and versatile selection ("Full Spectrum"). Meanwhile, the pace picked up at Versatile with I:Cube's first LP ("Picnic Attack") which sold 20 000 copies via a strictly independent network of distributors, not to mention Gilbert's house hit "Venus (Sunshine People)" under the Cheek moniker. In 1997, reacting to the increasingly stale nature of drum & bass, Gilb'r created Versatile subdivision "Future Talk" and launched Bel Air Project's "Dark Jazzor Ep" which is still hailed today as a Nu-Jazz classic. After a string of classic drum & bass releases ( "One Force", "I Like / Schema") Gilbert followed the path of West-London producer Dego of 4-Hero fame by focusing on jazz music and jazz-influenced breakbeat. In 1999, Future Talk released the critically acclaimed Joakim Lone Octet debut (Tiger Sushi) heralding the jazz-tinged productions of the likes of Cinematic Orchestra, Amon Tobin, Freeform Arkestra etc. Gilbert Cohen. After several remixes (Pierre Henry, Air) and one EP ("Discobole"), I:Cube and Dj Gilb'r have decided to team up once again under the Château-Flight moniker to release their debut LP : "Puzzle". The pair have come-up with an innovative formula that sounds like Matthew Herbert bouncing into Larry Levan at John Waters' vintage eighties paraphernalia shop. With much in store for the new millennium , Gilbert Cohen has already left his mark on the nineties as a talented producer that chose to focus on the quality of music instead of chasing the hype most fall for. About I:Cube: At 25, Nicolas Chaix had already developed a deeply personal universe through intensive listening to Paris free radios ( Aligre, Libertaire, Nova, FG), and frantic scrutinizing of all things graphic-related not mentioning the obvious frequent participation to Paris burgeoning rave and free party scene. After sending several demos to Gilb'r, at the time one of Radio Nova's main sound-programmer, Chaix signed to the newly founded Versatile imprint and produced the label's first release, Disco Cubizm, under the I:Cube moniker. The EP features a nifty Daft Punk remix that put Versatile on the world map of "hot" electronic talents. Although Nicolas' later releases "Metamorphik" and "Picnic Attack" did not quite catch public attention in the same proportion, his debut LP " Picnic Attack" received a particularly warm welcome from the British musical press. A twisted and personal interpretation of Detroit Techno, Chicago House, movie soundtracks and absurd jingles, Picnic Atack inaugurated the concept of "Library Recorded Background Music". After a string of remixes for various artists and the release of his first collaboration with Gilb'r under the Chateau Flight moniker -Discobole Ep- I:Cube unleashed new musical mayhem with his series of deeply inspired and irony-tinged EP : « Scratch Robotniks, "Tropiq" and " Pooh Pah". This material was compiled on his second Lp Adore. Its amazing mixture of dub, bossa, techno, electro and house music revealed I:Cube to a larger audience and established his talent as a unique composer. In october 2000, Versatile released Château Flight's first LP Puzzle to much critical acclaim and the duo plans a live-tour for the year 2001. Whilst prolongated his musical co-op with GIlb´r on mythical remixes (Brandy´s Ritual, Cesaria Evora´s classics), Chaix kept on exploring all the leftfield universes inhabiting his mind on solo Faceball 2000 efforts or in conjunction with the group of friends he formed in Montreuil, on the outskirts of Paris. Among those, possibly most promising, is joint with looser-pornographer extraordinaire, John Cravache, a blunted up and craz ed out version of Max Berlin set to release some trend-setting material in 2003. In October 2003, Chaix will release his long awaited third coming, 3, and again settle the score within the electronic music community. A very mature LP that showcases the diverse talents of the man with less of the ascetic techno angle exposed on Adore. The album features sever sureshoots in the form of Music, Inspector Cube, Vaccum Jackers or the RZA (of Wu Tang Clan fame) featuring ‘Can you deal with that?’ A question the audience and critics will surely answer, what´s doubtless is that the man is "right back" About Chateau Flight: Die Piloten von Château Flight, Nicolas Chaix und Gilbert Cohen, treffen sich erstmals Mitte der 90er-Jahre in einem Café in Paris. Dort spielt Chaix Cohen selbstproduzierte Musik vor, um dessen Meinung diesbezüglich einzuholen. Cohen, als DJ Gilb'R Host beim Pariser Radio Nova, ist davon angetan und nimmt Chaix alias I:Cube als ersten Künstler für sein neu gegründetes Label Versatile unter Vertrag. Die "Disko Cubism" EP, das Debüt von I:Cube und zugleich Versatiles Katalognummer Eins, hat auf Anhieb Erfolg. Sie verkauft sich wohl auch Dank eines Daft Punk-Remixes außerordentlich gut und ist nicht nur in den Clubs auf der Mittelmeer-Partyinsel Ibiza ein großer Hit. Als Gilb'R ein Remix-Angebot für ein Stück von Pierre Henry unterbreitet bekommt, schlägt er Chaix – Fan des Musique Concrète-Künstlers – vor, sich gemeinsam an die Arbeit zu machen. Außerdem tragen sie ein Stück bei zur "Source Lab-Compilation" des Labels Source. 1997 markiert den Beginn ihrer langjährigen Zusammenarbeit als Château Flight. In der Folge treten sie als Remixer von Air, Peter Kruder's Peace Orchestra oder Manu Dibango in Erscheinung. Zwischenzeitlich sind die beiden in gleicher Weise solo aktiv: Chaix veröffentlicht mit "Picnic Attack" sein Debüt-Album, das begeisterte Kritiken erhält. Cohen stellt in seiner Eigenschaft als Mitarbeiter von Radio Nova Compilations wie Novamix zusammen. Das erste Album von Château Flight lässt erst einmal auf sich warten; "Puzzle" erscheint 2000 und beinhaltet einen jazzy Mix aus Downtempo, Elektronik, Funk und anderen spannenden Zutaten. Im selben Jahr kommt I:Cube's zweite LP "Adore" heraus, der mit "Remixes" eine dritte Scheibe folgt. Château Flight selbst vereinen auf "Remixent" ihre bisherigen Interpretationen von Stücken anderer Künstler. 2003 bringen Versatile das schlicht mit "3" betitelte dritte Album und I:Cubes Hommage an elektronische Musik aus Detroit sowie ein Jahr darauf "Versatile Mixtape", eine weiteren Compilation von Gilb'R, in die Plattenläden. Für ihre aktuelle Platte "The Meal" laden sich Château Flight eine Reihe verschiedener Gäste ein: die Sänger und Sängerinnen Bertrand Burgalat, Shawn Lee, Nicola Kramer und Marie Daulne, den Flötisten Magic Malik, Rapper Beretta 9 sowie den Paris Japanese Chor. Das Ergebnis klingt entsprechend abwechslungsreich und vielseitig nach Techno, Pop, Soul, Hip Hop, Electro und World. In Frankreich schon erhältlich, kommt das Werk Anfang 2005 nach Deutschland. Das nächste Lebenszeichen der beiden Franzosen erscheint mit der EP "Baroque" 2006 auf dem Âme- und Dixon-Label Innervisions. Im Jahr darauf treten Château Flight in die Fußstampfen von Dixon und mixen wie der Berliner DJ ein Set für die Compilation-Reihe "Body Language" des renommierten Labels Get Physical. |

für mich war es gestern ein gelungener auftakt, wollte nur kurz bleiben und bin um halb 4 gegangen!
etwas warm ist es im prechtsaal und im foyer sollte man die eine lampe die mittig über den tanzboden hängt ausschalten, ansonsten sehr sehr fein gilb-r und i:cube war es eine freude zu zusehen bzw. zu zuhören freu mich schon auf weiteres Der Beitrag wurde von rr.lovschitz bearbeitet: 19 Jan 2008, 10:46 |

Fands auch ganz gelungen, auch wenn mir beim Sound ein bisschen der Flow gefehlt hat. War teilweise ein bisschen zu "zerstört" für mich ...
