Punctuating 2006 with a flurry of releases and DJ shows, the youngster is set to carry the momentum into 2007 with releases due on prominent labels such as Metalheadz, Renegade Hardware, Bassbin, Critical, Creative Source and Shogun. After being brought up in the Seychelles, Sabre moved to the UK in 1989 where within a matter of years a passion for Hip-Hop of the era had converted the quiet migrant from the Indian Ocean into a jeans sagging, pocket money squandering, vinyl addict. The Jungle Era arrived and overwhelmed at the richness of the music, Sabre started to purchase the occasional release, and eventually switched focus entirely towards drum and bass with the discovery of more futuristic, industrial sounding artists such as Ed Rush, Dom&Roland, Future Forces and Photek. Pirate and internet radio stations such as Live 4 Beats, UK Rumble, Rude FM and Vision FM supported the young DJ, and with hopeful ambitions emerging on a career in music, the inevitable experimentation with music production had begun, with artists of the day such as Jonny L, Ed Rush & Optical, Kemal and Teebee all providing a major influence, but never forgetting his roots the ethic of people like Premier, Diamond D, The Beatminerz and DJ Muggs all having a noticeable influence in early productions. A course in music technology followed and now armed with a grasp of technique; the first releases came in 2002 under the guise of both Sabre, and the collaborative 'Intimidation Collective' project. 2004 saw growing support in the form of remix work for British indie stalwarts, Relentless recordings, Singles for Jerona Fruits and Research recordings, and the formation of the now heavily active 'Do The Math' project , the collaborative production outfit founded by Sabre that has since grown to incorporate 5 members. With DJ work now increasing bolstered by the production profile, An excursion into the world of promotion with the launch of London Zu, and studio time resulting in heavily supported music such 'Gift You Gave', 'NYC' feat Jenna G, 'These simple Things' 'Dojo' and 'The Late,Late show' , the last 18 months have been an exciting and hectic period for the young Londoner. But with a long-term production and DJ relationship now emerging with Alix Perez, other collaborative efforts completed with Zero Tolerance, Survival, Fracture and Lowqui plus more diverse Do the Math material and future projects pencilled in alongside Commix, Kryptic Minds, Breakage, Kasra and more, the pace of life is unlikely to ease for the man his mates call 'S'…...not just yet. www.myspace.com/sabrelondonzu |
