Specials/Infos	Wien wird auch im Januar und Februar 2008 wieder zur Hauptstadt der Audio-vision! Einen Monat lang stehen Fixpunkte der Stadt ganz im Zeichen der Projektion, des Sounds und der audio-visuellen Kultur. Sound:frame, das Festival zur Visualisierung von elektronischer Musik präsentiert in vielfacher Form Arbeiten, Performances und Theorien der Crème-de-la-Crème internationaler wie nationaler VisualistInnen, VideokünstlerInnen und SoundkünstlerInnen. Die sound:frame Ausstellung im Wiener Künstlerhaus präsentiert von 18. Januar bis 09. Februar fixe Installationen, Projektionen und Videoarbeiten ausgewählter KünstlerInnen. Daneben kann man bei mehreren Live Events an den Wochenenden erneut das Zusammenspiel aus Sound und Projektionen genießen. Zu ganz speziellen audio-visuellen Performances laden wir zusätzlich an ein paar Abenden ein. Internationale und nationale A/V Acts verzaubern mit aufeinander abgestimmten sound- und video Performances. Einen wichtigen Punkt für den internationalen Diskurs stellt diesmal auch das sound:frame Symposion dar. Jeweils an den vier Samstagen, werden internationale ExpertInnen - KünstlerInnen, TheoretikerInnen, VeranstalterInnen u.v.m. – zu diversen Themenschwerpunkten vortragen und diskutieren. Um das Programm abzurunden, bieten wir zusätzlich dazu in Kooperation mit der Fakultät für Architektur (TU Wien) zahlreiche Workshops für VisualistInnen, SoundkünstlerInnen und besonders Interessierte. About Jan Jelinek: Since his early childhood, Jan Jelinek’s life has centered on music, collected records and immersing himself in their seductive sound. In love with the unique, genre-specific sounds of dub, jazz, funk and soul, it took the discovery of house music to trigger his own musical awakening: he discovered a new, playful approach to his musical knowledge, allowing him to distil those special sounds without stooping to straightforward recycling. Instead, Jelinek’s approach is all about the transformation of sounds, about devising a method for translating the pathos of old Motown records or the excesses of funk into abstract, reduced electronics. At this point in time he also began to work with loops, with slight modulations that convey the gist of a piece of music, even help to define it more clearly, yet mask the actual source. Since 1998, Jelinek has been releasing records under a number of pseudonyms, adaptations of a method with surprisingly different outcomes. The evolution of a specific signature sound without the constraints of auto-repetition. While Gramm stands for pulsating minimal Electronica, Farben explores the reinterpretation of soul by dissecting Jelinek’s record collection and rearranging it in subtle variations: Frankfurt-based label “Klang Elektronik” published a total of seven different Farben EPs, (later re-released as the “Textar” compilation) - a play on the German term “Klangfarben” (timbre, literally “colors of sound”) and a subtle translation of the originally painstakingly arranged music into completely purified, yet no less precisely arranged, even danceable soundscapes. 2001 saw the release of „Loop Finding Jazz Records“(~scape), Jelinek’s first record under his own name, based, as the name implies, on old jazz recordings. Again, the source material was stripped relentlessly, often reduced to no more than its unique, ambient sound. After Jelinek’s treatment, the original arrangements were no longer audible, but transformed into mere acoustic situations, turning the sound medium into an instrument in its own right. In this, Jelinek tilted the spotlight away from the musician to the production process per se: what do we hear when our ear moves away from the notes? »La Nouvelle Pauvreté« (~scape, 2003) marked an astonishing shift towards transparency - for the first time in Jelinek’s career, he chose to reveal discernible quotes from rock music, without ever succumbing to rock itself. To this end, Jelinek invented a fictitious backing band, The Exposures, and thus questioned the supposition of music as a collective process. How many times can a person reinvent himself? For this project, his sampling sources encompassed everything from Brian Ferry to Sun Ra. And, for the first time, he made it possible, yet not essential to identify specific samples, while the music remained abstract enough to avoid any live band connotations. Even the (canned) applause could be considered an acoustic citation, albeit only to highlight the artificiality of the band set-up. With “Kosmischer Pitch” (~scape, 2005”) Jelinek now returns to his roots, yet, at least in part, avails himself of almost baroque, exuberant gestures: in his quest for the music’s basic harmonic principle, he layers his “cosmic” sounds more strongly than ever. “Minimal” and “opulent” are no longer a dichotomy: while their acoustic space seems very expansive, it is by no means over-crowded. Berlin-based Jelinek is a tireless DJ, musician, producer and remixer. He collaborates with artists like Sarah Morris and author Thomas Meinecke, performs club live sets on his laptop as Farben or collaborates with improvisation ensembles like the Japanese trio Computer Soup and Australian jazz formation Triosk (see also their joint ~scape release, Triosk meets Jan Jelinek “1 + 3 + 1”, 2003). After a successful Australian tour and a number of European shows in 2004, Jelinek and Triosk have now planned a string of concerts for 2006. “Kosmischer Pitch”, too, will be aired as a trio. Together with multi-instrumentalist Andrew Pekler (known to many by his alter ego Sad Rockets) and drummer Hanno Leichtmann (Static, White Hole, VSQ) he aims to establish a dynamic balance between group improvisation and an adequate representation of the album. Furthermore, during the last few years Jelinek has intensified his collaborative efforts with video artist and programmer Karl Kliem. As part of their audiovisual performance Kliem generates synchronized graphics to Jelinek’s music. A DVD release is in the planning for next year. In all his various guises, Jelinek’s attitude to music has always been and remains unfettered by stylistic constraints, but targets the style-encompassing essence of specific sounds. This equally sensuous and – from a style and epoch-defined pop perspective – abstract approach corresponds to its interdisciplinary counterpart: when it comes down to it, Jelinek is always striving to vanquish hierarchies. About Karl Kliem: Karl Kliem (MESO / Involving Systems) * 1970 in Frankfurt Studium: Produktgestaltung an der HfG Offenbach mit Schwerpunkt User-Interface Design. Karl Kliem arbeitet im Bereich der Konzeption und Planung interaktiver Installationen, insbesondere an Systemen zur Echtzeitgenerierung von Bild und Ton. Diverse Arbeiten im Bereich Multimedia, Webdesign, TV-Design. Musik- und Soundproduktionen für Filme und interaktive Installationen. Mitbegründer von MESO. Mitglied der Gruppe Involving Systems und Gründer des Videolabels Dienststelle.

sonstiges	T.A.N.I.T.H. Tanith ist in seinem Gebiet ein Künstler, der Grenzen testet, überschreitet und auch bereichert. Vor Rund 2 Jahrzehnten war er bereits Dj und Veranstalter im legendären UFO. 10 Jahre später, 1991, beschallte er unaufhörlich den Tresor in Berlin wo er dann zum "Härtesten DJ der Welt", andere nennen ihn "Herrn der fiesen Töne" avancierte. Ihm wurde dadurch die Ehre zuteil, als erster Dj auf der Mayday zu spielen. Sein eigenes Label "Bash" war dann nur eine Frage der Zeit. 1992 titelten ihn die Magazine "ID Magazin" und "Face" zum "DJ of the Month" weil er als erster deutscher Dj beim Universe Rave in UK den damaligen typischen Hardcore nahe brachte. 1995 ließ er bei Rave on Cruise andeuten, dass er die Mayday verlässt. Ein spektakulärer offener Brief, der in der Groove abgedruckt wurde, folgte. Seit dem Winter spielte er mit Ellen Allien jetzt auch noch sonntags im Tresor zur Entspannung auf. Nach seinem Album "Stil" geht die Bashtour an den Start und arriviert zusammen mit Mitstreitern wie Thomas P. Heckmann, Thomas Schumacher, Rob Acid und Mijk van Dijk zu einer der größten Touren durchs deutsche Land. 2005 machte Tanith den Support für die Prodigytour in Deutschland und erweitert sein DJ Setup in die digitale Ebene um mit Serato Scratch noch mehr Möglichkeiten und Auswahl im Set präsentieren zu können. Sein Set an dem Abend wird zwar nicht mehr den alten Zeiten nachheulen aber dafür Techno der Neuzeit mehr als nur würdig repräsentieren. Energie, Stimmung und Party pur ! Home Meltin Group

Mit der Gründung von Samsara 1996 läutete er eine Ära legendärer Parties im Kanal in Schwertberg ein. Aber nicht nur die Veranstaltung und Organisation der Samsara Parties sind für Alexx´ Bekannheitsgrad veranwortlich, massgeblich sind wohl auch sein Engagement in der Electronicszene und seine energetischen DJ-Sets. Von House über Breakbeat und stylischem Minimalsound bis hin zu Electrotec und Techouse ist alles möglich. Immer fein verpackt und mit einem Auge auf den Dancefloor schielend… so könnte man sein musikalisches Spektrum wohl bezeichnen. sonstiges	JUSTUS KÖHNCKE From punkrock to acid, ballads to techno, "Whirlpool" to "KOMPAKT" - cologne-based producer, singer and DJ Justus Köhncke has surely come a long way. Justus started off in the late 80s with his first project "Blood And Honey", a Düsseldorf-based duo doing nothing but electronic versions of Amanda Lear songs. After moving to cologne in 1990, Justus, heavily influenced by house music, began producing tracks with different people, especially DJs Hans Nieswandt and Eric D. Clark. At this time, he started spinning his own special mixture of records in the cologne scene as well. From 1992 to 2000 he, Eric and Hans, under their "Whirlpool Productions" moniker, released four full-length albums for Ladomat, Motor and WEA, as well as countless 12 inches and remixes. They are especially known for their 1996 club classic "From: Disco To: Disco" which became a major hit across europe and held the #1 spot in the italian pop charts, summer 1997, for five weeks. After WPP split up, Justus started releasing under his own name. His first solo album, "Spiralen der Erinnerung" (1999), consisted of very personal electronic interpretations of his favourite classics by the likes of John Cale, Neil Young or Hildegard Knef and also introduced Köhncke as a fragile and soulful vocalist. But disco was never dead for him. He continued rocking the cologne bars and dancefloors as a DJ and developed his very own sci-fi-techno-disco production style. After signing with his old cologne rave buddies on the reowned KOMPAKT label in 2001, he dropped his now-trademark 12 inches "Jet/Shelter" and "2 After 909" as well as his series of Chic-Hommage-Tracks, "SCIENCE 210X". 2002 saw the release of his first solo album for KOMPAKT, "Was Ist Musik", which combined the clubby side of his music and his very special approach towards german-language electronic pop songs. "Doppelleben", the 2005 album release, pushed this duality even further, prompting the US paper "Seattle Weekly" to coin the term "nü-german compu-soul". 2004's 12" release "Timecode" turned out to become his biggest disco smash so far, ruling the floors that summer. His club tracks have been licensed on countless compilations and mix-CDs, including ones by Erlend Øye, Steve Bug, DJ Hell or Felix Da Housecat. In recent years, Justus has produced remixes for Chelonis R. Jones, Ladytron, Mylo, Andreas Dorau, Erasure, Stereo Total and Hot Chip, among others. 2008: 28.01.:"Safe and Sound", Justus´ new and long awaited album is released. KODE9 ...is one of the dubstep scene's leading lights. His label, powers as a tastemaker and his DJ sets have won him acclaim all over the world in recent years. He has followed the freshest wave of the hyperdub virus into the 21st century, a mutating sound, as much influenced by Jamaican dub and dancehall, Berlin's dub techno/microhouse as London's jungle, drum'n'bass and uk garage scenes. He is currently pushing a distinctly South London sound, playing a mixture of dancehall influenced bass heavy post-garage, variously known as dubstep, and grime. Today he is leading dubstep dj (check the acclaimed Dubstep Allstars mix series released on Tempa and http://kode9.blogspot.com/2007/05/mix-for-...-festival.html) and among the most unique sounding and interesting producers. Kode9 is an oldschool dj with a polished mixing technique and he knows exactly how the scene is moving; he controls the different trends and he's alert about its current possibilities and its future prospects. While he plays nothing but the newest upfront dubs, Kode's also been DJing longer than some youngers have been alive, following the sound through from old school to jungle, 2step to today. Widely recognized as the most creative producer in the genre, and the head of it's most respected label, Kode9 is the axis upon which much of Dubstep has turned. His dubstep, condensed in the glacial "Memories of the future", compresses a thousand and one ideas attached to science fiction ideology, evokes a dubious and slightly esoteric tomorrow, like if space-time continuity could be altered any minute. He is also the founder of the pioneering dubstep label Hyperdub, releasing artist such as Burial, Warrior Queen and The Bug among others. He has released tracks on Aphex Twin's Rephlex label, pioneering dubstep label Tempa, Domino, Souljazz, Planet Mu and his own Hyperdub imprint and has recently remixed artist such as the Junior Boys, Badawi and Dabrye feat. MF Doom. In 2006 he mixed the Dubstep Allstars Vol.3 CD compilation on Tempa records with vocalist Spaceape and released their debut album, 'Memories of the Future'. His track "Backward" was used on the official soundtrack from Alfonso Cuarón's masterpiece "Children of men". He has been a resident at "Forward",dubstep's founding club night, since its inception, and his dj sets have helped spread the South London sound internationally from Australia to America. Steve Goodman is a lecturer in Media Production and he runs the MA Sonic Culture at the University of East London. sonstiges	Nachdem Wien von der KROCHA Maffia beherrscht wird, haben wir uns entschlossen, mal eine VICE Party in Innsbruck zu machen. Zufällig ist am nächsten Tag das Air & Style, passt gut, haben wir uns gedacht, machen wirs zur offiziellen Air & Style Warm Up Party. Dann können auch diejenigen unter euch, die zwar Tickets für die Show am nächsten Tag haben, aber wirklich nicht das Bett verlassen können, sagen, sie waren am Air & Style. Zumindest irgendwie. Alle, die nicht glauben, dass es ihnen so gehen wird, weil sie so oarge Partypiraten sind und sie nichts so schnell umhaut, die waren noch nie auf einer VICE Party. Eure Lebensabschnittspartner werden euch am Samstag nicht mehr erkennen, eure Eltern leugnen, euch aufgezogen zu haben. Ihr werdet Tiere sein, eher, Tierkadaver. Aber das ist es Wert. So habt ihr wenigstens eine Anekdote, bei der die Enkelkinder nicht einschlafen. Zum Beispiel, dass ihr Princess Superstar auf die Stiefel gekotzt habt. Oder sie euch. Seine legendaeren DJ und Live Sets im Waagenbau, Hafenklang und der Tanzhalle, um nur ein paar in HH zu nennen, sind allen, die dort waren, lebhaft in Erinnerung geblieben. Getreu seinem Motto 'Uns den Arsch wegzurocken' mischt er live Techno mit House-Elementen, NuBreaks und Pop. Unterstuetzt wird er durch Saengerin Katka, die ihr Debuet auf der Foxy Push Maxi 'Disconnected' ablieferte. Die Baesse knarzen und der Rhythmus spielt verrueckt.
